Madison Uniforms and Dress Code

At Madison, our uniform dress code helps create a positive, focused, and academic environment where scholars are ready to learn and succeed. Students’ attire reflects self‑respect, school pride, and a commitment to doing their best each day. Thank you for partnering with us to help our students take pride in their appearance and their learning!

Madison School Uniform Guidelines

TOPS

  • Colors: Solid white, red, or navy/dark blue
  • Styles: Shirts with or without collars, polo shirts, or turtlenecks
  • Logos: Must be no larger than 1" square

BOTTOMS

  • Colors: Solid navy/dark blue or khaki
  • Styles: Jumpers, skorts, skirts, shorts, pants, or blue jeans
  • Jeans: Must be dark blue with no holes or tears

OUTERWEAR

  • Hats: Must have a 2"–3" brim all the way around and be a solid school color; Madison logo hats are welcome
  • Jackets & Sweaters: All jackets (including rainwear) are allowed; logos must be no larger than 1" square. Sweaters and sweatshirts must be solid red, white, or navy/dark blue

✨ Madison School Spirit Wear may be worn any day! Other Madison‑related shirts (such as Hi Hill, STAR, Jump Rope for Heart, etc.) are also welcome. Scout and Campfire uniforms may be worn on meeting days.

Please note: Shirts and blouses must be tucked in while in the classroom. Any shirt extending below the hip must remain tucked in at all times.

FOOTWEAR

  • Shoes must fully cover the foot
  • No sandals, open‑toed, or open‑heeled shoes
  • No high heels
  • No shoes with holes (including Crocs)

District Dress Code Expectations

All students are expected to follow district School Dress Standards as outlined in the Guidelines for Parents and Students and Madison’s school policy. Clothing, whether uniform or not, must fit properly and be neat and clean. Attire should always support safety, modesty, and a positive learning environment.

This includes avoiding:

  • Clothing with offensive, degrading, or inappropriate language or images
  • Revealing or overly tight items (bare midriffs, halter tops, tank tops, short shorts)
  • Oversized, baggy, or sagging clothing that exposes underwear
  • Gang-related apparel

Hats or scarves are not allowed on campus unless they meet the guidelines above and may only be worn outdoors. Leggings, sweatpants, and bicycle shorts are not permitted unless worn under a skirt or jumper. For safety, students may not wear jewelry or accessories that could cause injury, sunglasses (unless medically required), or other items not appropriate for an elementary school setting. Parents will be notified if a dress code violation occurs, and students will be asked to change clothing as needed.

Uniform Assistance

We understand that families may occasionally experience challenging times, and Madison is proud to offer support when it’s needed. The following uniform assistance programs are available to help our families, and all requests are handled with complete confidentiality.

Operation School Bell (OSB)

Families may complete a Parent Authorization Letter for their child to receive a new backpack, uniform, jacket or sweatshirt, socks, and additional school supplies generously provided by the Assistance League of Long Beach. For more information, please email tguinn@lbschools.net, or complete the Authorization Form (available at the school's office) and submit it to the school office.

Uniform Give & Take Donation Program (while supplies last)

Families are welcome to donate or receive gently used school uniforms at Madison. Donations are accepted in the school office any day throughout the school year, and participation is always optional and judgment‑free.
